In
Massachusetts, where I live, we had almost nothing but rain all spring. But
(I hope) warm, summery weather will arrive soon. And if you are planning to
paint your living space this summer, I hope you'll think about cooling
shades of blue. Imagine a bright, clear swimming pool, a brilliant summer
sky, a view of the ocean, or a bouquet of hydrangeas, and bring that
inspiration into your home.
Paint your walls blue for serenity. The color blue can be both calming and
refreshing. In a bedroom, it invites restful sleep. And blue is as
wonderful on the ceiling as it is on the walls. Pratt & Lambert's Cumulus
(#1245), is a very delicate blue that you could gaze at all day.

Blue encompasses a large family of colors from sky to robin's egg (like
Benjamin Moore #757) to cobalt to navy. Yellow is a perfect complement for
blue, but so is chocolate brown. A blue room will be enhanced by
accessorizing with toile fabrics and blue willow china. Blue evokes water,
and you can lend a nautical feel to a white room by using blue on the trim.
Periwinkle
is currently a popular hue. One friend loves her living room, which she
painted in Roslyn's Blue from Behr. Benjamin Moore's Denim Comfort (#822)
is another blue with some lilac in it. It's gorgeous and enveloping. Also
consider California Paints Blue Feather (7043M) for a cozy periwinkle room.
Paint the trim a bright white. An adjacent room will look stylish in lime.
Two of my favorite medium blues are Pratt & Lambert's Colonel's Lady
(#1212) and Benjamin Moore Summer Blue (#2067-50). If you're not shy about
using deep color, Ralph Lauren's On A Beach is a dramatic cobalt blue. It's
shown on the cover of the latest issue of Simply Perfect Color Schemes
magazine. The walls of a dark blue room will seem to disappear at night,
bringing a very intimate feeling to the space.

I hope you have a wonderful summer, and that you'll bring a cooling sea
breeze into your home this season by painting with blue.
